#PowellVsTrump The President of the U.S., Donald Trump, launched a strong criticism against the President of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, this week, intensifying his demand for lower interest rates as Representative Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) reinforced concerns about the central bank's diminishing influence.

Trump Criticizes the Fed as the Nation Ranks 35th in Global Interest Rates President Donald Trump is once again attacking Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, accusing him this time of costing the country trillions by refusing to lower interest rates. "He's a stupid guy, and an obvious Trump hater," Trump said in a June statement published on Truth Social alongside a chart of global interest rates highlighting the Fed's relatively high benchmark rate.

Earlier this week, before Trump made his latest comments, the Federal Reserve opted to keep interest rates where they are. Despite three rate cuts at the end of 2024, the Fed's federal funds rate has remained steady between 4.25% and 4.50% since December 2024, placing the United States in 35th place globally in the central bank interest rate ranking. Trump argued that a cut to 1%–2% "could save the United States of America up to 1 trillion dollars a year."
