🔐 Tether Unveils PearPass – A No-Cloud Password Manager Amid Historic Data Leak

The largest password leak in history — with over 16 billion credentials exposed, affecting major platforms like Apple, Google, Facebook, and even government services — has sent shockwaves through the tech and crypto communities. In response, Tether has announced PearPass, a fully local, open-source password manager.

💥 Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino revealed PearPass on June 19, 2025 via X, declaring: “The cloud has failed us again.” PearPass is designed to operate 100% offline, storing all sensitive data — from passwords and notes to credit card details — directly on the user’s device, eliminating risks associated with centralized cloud storage.

📲 PearPass features a user-friendly interface with categories like Logins, Credit Cards, Notes, and Identities, as well as a welcoming screen that says “Hi Peer! Unlock the Vault”. The tool organizes data neatly without requiring any server connection.

📊 According to Cybernews, the leaked credentials came primarily from infostealer malware. Each dataset averaged 550 million records, impacting services like Telegram, GitHub, and more.

🌍 The release of PearPass signals not just a tactical response, but a strategic move by Tether to expand into cybersecurity, at a time when the crypto sector is increasingly threatened by digital security risks.

Though still in a “coming soon” phase, PearPass is being welcomed by the community as a promising step toward decentralized, transparent, and cloud-free security — potentially redefining how users protect their digital identities.
