$90M Heist from Iran’s Nobitex Exchange
Hackers with alleged Israeli links have stolen approximately $90M–100M in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, and other assets from Iran’s largest crypto exchange, Nobitex. The breach appears politically motivated, possibly orchestrated by a group calling itself "Predatory Sparrow" or "Gonjeshke Darande." It also resulted in a widespread internet shutdown in Iran and publication of Nobitex’s source code online
Why it matters:
Illustrates crypto’s entanglement in geopolitical cyber warfare and state-level espionage.
Raises stark concerns about security and sovereignty for exchanges in sensitive regions.
