#WalletConnect

WalletConnect ($WCT) is the native governance and utility token of the WalletConnect Network, a pivotal open-source protocol established in 2018. Its primary function is to securely and seamlessly connect cryptocurrency wallets with decentralized applications (dApps) across various blockchains. This "socket layer" of Web3 has become integral, enabling smooth interactions without requiring users to expose private keys or rely on browser extensions.

WCT plays a crucial role in the network's decentralization and sustainability. Token holders can participate in on-chain governance, proposing and voting on network upgrades, fee structures, and strategic initiatives. Additionally, WCT can be staked to secure the network and earn rewards, incentivizing participation from users and node operators. While initially focused on connection services, future utility may include network fee payments and incentivizing community-driven UX improvements. WalletConnect's widespread adoption, supporting over 600 wallets and 40,000 dApps, underscores its importance as a core infrastructure layer in the Web3 ecosystem.
