Hacker burns 90 million USD hacked from Iran's largest crypto exchange!
Nobitex – the largest crypto exchange in Iran has just been hacked, losing over 90 million USD from its hot wallet. The hacker group Predatory Sparrow (suspected to have links to Israel) has claimed responsibility, stating that they targeted Nobitex due to suspicions that the exchange was providing financial support to the Iranian government and circumventing sanctions.
Notably, most of the stolen crypto has been “burned” – transferred to an inaccessible wallet, causing all these assets to disappear from circulation.
The incident occurs amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, highlighting that cyber warfare is spreading to both DeFi and CeFi.
With over 10 million users, Nobitex’s collapse could trigger a domino effect in the Iranian crypto ecosystem. This is not just a hack but resembles a politically motivated sabotage attack.
