The greatest taboo in life is perfection
Some have bad marriages, yet their children excel;
Some have great marriages, but poor health;
Some have smooth careers, but disharmony at home;
Some have a harmonious family, yet live in poverty.
One should not enjoy all blessings, occupy all power, or greedily take all achievements. You see, in this life, when successful, one can see all the flowers in Chang'an in a day; in failure, one may feel the cold wind in a valley. Seeking and not obtaining may not necessarily be a regret.
Those who are content find joy in poverty,
While those who are not content worry even in wealth.
In fact, the best state of life is to seek deficiency rather than fullness. When water is full, it overflows; when the moon is full, it wanes; a little fullness is the best state of life.
In this state of little fullness, we need not be sorrowful for what we cannot obtain, nor should we be smug about what we have. With a peaceful heart, we face the ups and downs of life with a smile. When setbacks loom like shadows, remind yourself that this is the tempering of life; when things go smoothly like warm sunshine, remind yourself to stay clear-headed and humble.
Life is a long journey of cultivation, and with little fullness, there is motivation to move forward. Accepting the imperfections of life, feel each moment in the balance of deficiency and fullness, allowing life to settle into rich fragrance over time; this is the best life.
