Coins vs Tokens

These two words confuse many beginners โ€” but letโ€™s break it down ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿฝ

๐Ÿ’ฐ Coin:

Has its own blockchain

Used mainly as digital money

Examples: Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), BNB

๐Ÿช™ Token:

Built on top of another blockchain

Used for many purposes (payments, governance, access, etc.)

Examples: USDT (on Ethereum), LINK, UNI

โœ… In short:

Every coin is a cryptocurrency,

but not every cryptocurrency is a coin โ€” some are tokens.

Coins = native to a blockchain

Tokens = hosted on a blockchain
