Metaplanet's shares rose more than 17% after the Japanese investment firm announced the acquisition of 1,112 BTC, bringing its total portfolio to 10,000 BTC, surpassing Coinbase Global's holdings.
On Monday, Metaplanet's CEO, Simon Gerovich, wrote on X that he had acquired an additional 1,112 BTC for $117.2 million, at an average price of $105,435 per Bitcoin. This raised its total portfolio to 10,000 BTC.
Data from Bitcointreasuries.net shows that Coinbase Global holds 9,267 BTC, indicating that Metaplanet's latest purchase has positioned it ahead of the cryptocurrency exchange platform. Following the announcement, Metaplanet's shares rose by 17.23%, reaching 1,769 yen at 11:30 AM in Japan, according to data from Yahoo Finance. Its stock price has increased by more than 408% since the beginning of this year.
