#VietnamCryptoPolicy Vietnam Marks Milestone in Crypto Regulation with New Law

Vietnam has taken a significant step by approving legislation that legally defines crypto assets, ending years of regulatory uncertainty. The new Digital Technology Industry Law, which will take effect on January 1, 2026, classifies digital assets as "virtual assets" and "crypto assets," laying the groundwork for a comprehensive regulatory framework.

This law aims to establish a licensing regime for exchanges, safeguards against money laundering (AML), and tax rules tailored to digital assets. With this move, Vietnam aspires to become a key regulated hub for cryptocurrencies in Southeast Asia, fostering innovation and security in its rapidly evolving digital economy, and aligning with international standards.
