Iranian authorities negotiate escape routes amid military offensive and internal crisis.

High-ranking officials of the Iranian regime are reportedly negotiating escape plans in light of the worsening internal crisis and the intensification of Israeli military attacks. According to information released by the television channel Iran International, Ali Asghar Hejazi, deputy chief of staff to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, is seeking a safe route to leave the country with his family with the support of Russia. Other members of the government’s leadership are said to be taking similar measures.

The negotiations are taking place amid an Israeli offensive that, in recent days, has destroyed air defense systems in western Iran and hit strategic targets in the capital, Tehran. In response, Iran launched missiles at Israeli cities, raising fears of a large-scale regional conflict.

In light of the escalation, European powers are attempting to open a diplomatic channel with the Iranian government. On Sunday, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that Germany, France, and the United Kingdom are ready to begin negotiations with Tehran “immediately,” with the aim of dismantling its nuclear program.
