Israel kills chief of Iran's Military General Staff, closest military leader to Khamenei
According to the Israeli Army, Ali Shadmani was the head of the Iranian General Staff and the figure closest to the supreme leader Ali Khamenei.
The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) reported on Tuesday (17) that they killed the chief of Iran's Military General Staff, Ali Shadmani, during a nighttime attack against the country. The military officer was at a headquarters in Tehran that was hit by an Israeli Air Force fighter jet.
Shadmani had taken up the position of chief of the Military General Staff last Friday (13), after initial Israeli attacks had killed high-ranking commanders, including his predecessor, Lieutenant General Gholam Ali Rashid. Both led the Central Headquarters Khatam al-Anbiya — the entity that coordinates the Army and the Revolutionary Guard of Iran.
In a statement, the Israeli Army stated that Shadmani was responsible for managing combat and approving Iranian attack plans to harm Israel.
For the second time, the IDF eliminated the chief of the General Staff in wartime, the highest-ranking military commander of the Iranian regime, and the man closest to Iranian leader Ali Khamenei. The assassination of Shadmani joins a series of killings of the highest military command of Iran and constitutes another blow to the command chain of the Iranian Armed Forces,” reported the Israeli Defense Forces.
