Negative Review Written Almost 4,000 Years Ago

This Babylonian clay tablet dates back to around 1750 BCE. A certain Nanni complains about a merchant named Ea-Nasir. The payment in jingling coins was made, but the promised copper, in addition to being late and the servant who took the order was rude, was also of the wrong quality. The servant did not accept the copper, but paid. The merchant, however, stopped communicating and essentially disappeared with poor Nanni's money. Neither the copper nor the silver arrived.

The tablet was found in the ruins of one of the dwellings of the ancient city-state of Ur, along with several similar complaints about Ea-Nasir. Researchers have come to the conclusion that this was either the merchant's own home, who simply collected these negative reviews without paying attention to them, or some kind of court or similar body where deceived customers appealed.
