A Colombian presidential candidate, Miguel Uribe Turbay, 39, was shot three times, including twice in the head, during a campaign event in BogotĆ”. The attack occurred on Saturday as Uribe addressed a crowd in a park. Police arrested a suspect at the scene, and Uribe remains in critical condition.
His party, Centro DemocrĆ”tico, condemned the assault as a threat to democracy. President Gustavo Petroās government also denounced the violence. Uribe, son of journalist Diana Turbay (killed by Pablo Escobarās cartel in 1991), announced his 2026 presidential bid in October.
