President Trump signed a declaration banning entry for citizens from 12 countries and restricting entry for 7 other countries in order to "protect Americans."

On the evening of June 4 (morning of June 5 in Hanoi), U.S. President Donald Trump signed a declaration completely banning entry for citizens from 12 countries including Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

Citizens from 7 countries, namely Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela will also face partial entry restrictions.

The ban will take effect at 12:01 PM on June 9. The administration is not enforcing the order immediately to allow for a transition period to avoid the chaos at airports nationwide that occurred in 2017 when a similar measure took effect with little prior notice.
