Elon Musk Sounds Alarm Over U.S. Debt Crisis, Slams Congress for ‘Disgusting’ Spending Bill
Elon Musk issued a stark warning this week, claiming the United States is on a path toward financial ruin due to unchecked government spending. The tech billionaire blasted Congress for passing what he called a “disgusting abomination” of a spending bill, expressing his frustration on his platform, X.
> “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” Musk posted. “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.”
He continued:
> “Shame on those who voted for it—you know you did wrong. You know it.”
Musk’s remarks targeted the recently passed “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” a sweeping tax and spending package backed by former President Donald Trump. The bill has cleared the House and is now headed to the Senate.
According to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, the legislation could raise primary deficits by $2.5 trillion over the next decade, or $3.1 trillion when including interest. If temporary provisions like the expanded child tax credit and exemptions for tips and overtime become permanent, total debt could rise by $5.1 trillion.
In a follow-up post, Musk warned:
> “It will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden American citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt. Congress is making America bankrupt.”
Previously head of the now-dissolved Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk has long voiced concerns over fiscal irresponsibility. He recently stepped down from his advisory role, thanking President Trump while affirming that DOGE’s mission would continue within the government.
Musk’s outcry has amplified debate over federal spending. Senator Rand Paul echoed the concerns on X:
> “I agree with Elon. We’ve both seen the massive waste in government spending. Another $5 trillion in debt is a huge mistake. We must do better.”
Meanwhile, the White House defended the bill. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt argued that the legislation was crucial for preserving tax relief and supporting national priorities.
