UK to restore 'war-fighting readiness' with new defence review

Is it leading to a War ?

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has promised to restore Britain's war-fighting readiness to face growing global threats, especially from Russia. A major defence strategy review, led by former NATO chief George Robertson, will be released soon.

It will highlight dangers from Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea. The UK plans to increase defence spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2027 and 3% by around 2029.

This will be funded partly by reducing overseas aid. The government will invest £1.5 billion to build at least six new weapons factories and produce 7,000 long-range weapons.

Another £1 billion will go toward a new cyber command. The goal is to boost the UK's ability to respond to threats, including daily Russian cyberattacks and new risks like drones and AI warfare.

Defence Secretary John Healey said these steps will make the UK safer and more prepared in a world of increasing danger.
