Around 17,000 people have evacuated parts of Canada, especially Manitoba, due to fast-moving wildfires. The fires are being pushed by hot, dry weather and strong winds. More than 188 wildfires are burning across the country, with thick smoke reaching parts of the U.S. Manitoba and Saskatchewan have declared states of emergency and are asking for international help. In Saskatchewan, 17 wildfires are burning, with 8 not under control.

Officials warn the number of evacuees could rise to 10,000 if dry weather continues. Northern communities, like Pukatawagan in Manitoba, are being evacuated by military aircraft and helicopters. In Flin Flon, a town of 5,000 people, only emergency workers remain. Manitoba has 25 active wildfires, with 11 out of control.

Prime Minister Mark Carney praised the efforts of emergency teams helping with the evacuations, calling the operation complex and vital. The next week is considered critical, as rain is needed to help slow the fires.
