The latest on Donald Trump’s presidency
Steel Tariffs and Changed NASA chief

Last week, President Donald Trump escalated his trade war by announcing plans to double steel tariffs to 50% during a speech at a Pennsylvania steel plant. This move follows a previous 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports in March, which drew retaliation from Canada and the EU. While the tariffs aim to revitalize the U.S. steel industry, critics warn they may increase construction and manufacturing costs.
Trump also expressed anger toward China, accusing it of violating trade agreements, and hinted at further trade actions. Legal battles are ongoing, as courts challenge Trump’s use of emergency powers to impose tariffs.
Separately, Trump withdrew his nomination of Jared Isaacman as NASA chief, citing a review of prior associations. Though Isaacman had bipartisan support and spaceflight experience, concerns over his ties to Elon Musk and Democratic donations prompted skepticism from lawmakers. Trump promised a new nominee aligned with his "America First in Space" vision.
