Pär Helgosson, Head of PSG Labs, the innovation division of Paris Saint-Germain, confirmed that the French club has already purchased bitcoin as a treasury in the past and still maintains its active participation.
The statement occurred on the third day of the Bitcoin 2025 event, the largest conference in the world taking place in Las Vegas (Nevada).
"Breaking news: the European football giant Paris Saint Germain announces that it has adopted a bitcoin treasury reserve," said Bitcoin Magazine in a statement.
As one of the biggest football brands in the current world, PSG also indicated that it is a brand that connects with new generations.
It is worth noting that the club has already adopted cryptocurrencies in the past and launched the Paris Saint-Germain Fan Token ($PSG). This token even became part of the salary of Argentine Lionel Messi when he played for the club in 2021.
What did the PSG executive say when confirming the purchase and adoption of bitcoin by the club?
At the beginning of his presentation on the Nakamoto 2025 stage, Helgosson stated that PSG has a base of 550 million fans worldwide. Of this number, 80% are under 34 years old, indicating a club of the new generation.
"So when I say that PSG is the club of the new generation, it means that we are concerned about what comes next, just like Bitcoin," declared the executive.
He also reminded that the club is one of the top in world football, which will compete in the Champions League Final against Inter Milan next Saturday (31), at 4 PM Brasília time.
Thus, the head of PSG Labs confirmed that the club's purchase occurred in the last year of 2024 and still remains intact in the treasure of the French club. Furthermore, Helgosson stated that as a bitcoin sports player, PSG is currently the largest in the world.
PSG Labs is investing in bitcoin startups.
The purchase of bitcoin by PSG Labs is not the only action of the club in the cryptocurrency market. This is because, according to the executive, several bitcoin startups and entrepreneurs in the sector already receive funding from the French club.
"PSG Labs is now accelerating bitcoin entrepreneurs and ventures, and we will help them enter the market," he declared.
Finally, the executive reminded that PSG will participate in the FIFA Club World Cup in Los Angeles next June 2025, where executives from the crypto market may seek the Labs to discuss initiatives with the global brand.
