U.S. President Donald Trump is planning to develop an anti-missile system called the Golden Dome. The defense project is projected to cost around US$175 billion, raising concerns it could negatively impact the nation’s economy.
According to Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts, Trump’s concept could harm the economy. He added that the project primarily benefits contractors and offers limited impact on the U.S. military.
Reportedly, Republican members of Congress have approved an initial budget of US$25 billion for the Golden Dome project. Additionally, the U.S. Congressional Budget Office predicts the project could ultimately cost as much as US$831 billion.
It is also reported that SpaceX, the aerospace company owned by Elon Musk, may be involved in developing the Golden Dome missile defense system for the United States. These rumors have intensified since President Trump expressed interest in building such a system during his term.
