In the Day 7 challenge of Binance (yes, the one from Pizza Day that they throw around on Telegram đ ) they sent us a rather nostalgic question:
Do you remember which was one of the first major chains to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment?
Among Starbucks, McDonald's, Domino's... I had no idea, so we went with the classic: "let's see what Mr. Google says" đ
And the truth came out: Subway was one of the first.
Yes, Subway! Back in 2013, there were locations where you could pay for your sandwich with BTC.
Now think about it this way: 2013...
đ± The cell phones looked like bricks, NFC didn't exist, and the camera barely focused on a QR code unless you lit it up with a candle.
How did they do it? Did they carry their computer under their arm to make the transaction? đ
I imagine it was also the beginning of online shopping... all very rudimentary, but epic for what was coming.
A crazy time for that era, when crypto was the thing of a few crazy people and Satoshis were worth less than a mint gum.
But these moves made history. They opened the door to everything we see today: more businesses accepting crypto, real digital payments, and that fantasy many of us have of paying for beer with Bitcoin đșâĄ
And you? Have you ever paid for something with crypto in the real world or just in your dreams?
Comment that we want to know, and share with that friend who still holds the BTC from 2013 in case one day he buys a yacht đđ€
