eCash is a cryptocurrency designed to be used as electronic cash for peer-to-peer transactions. It was created as a result of a hard fork of the Bitcoin blockchain in November 2020 and was originally called Bitcoin Cash ABC. In July 2021, the cryptocurrency was renamed to eCash (XEC) to better align with its mission to become a fast, secure, and easy-to-use international payment service. The project aims to implement the ideas of renowned economist Milton Friedman and was initiated by Amauri Seshe, who played a key role in the development of Bitcoin Cash.
