They recover $3 million in forgotten Bitcoins thanks to a brilliant hack.
The famous h4ck€r Joe Grand, known as 'Kingpin', managed to do the impossible: recover a lost password from a wallet with over $3 million in Bitcoins.
The owner had purchased 43.6 bitcoins in 2013 for just $4,000, and after more than a decade, his investment multiplied by 74,000%. The problem: he forgot the password.
Joe documented the entire process. He discovered that the software used to generate the password did so based on the system date.
Then they did something brilliant: they changed the computer's date to the exact moment when the bitcoins were purchased. This way, the generator started to produce thousands of combinations until one matched.
After years being locked out, access was regained... and with it, millions of dollars that seemed lost forever.
