Bitcoin Dominance
vs. Altcoin Performance:
An increase in Bitcoin dominance typically indicates that its price is outperforming that of the majority of altcoins. This occasionally occurs as a result of cryptocurrencies trailing behind Bitcoin's sharp price increase.
At other times, Bitcoin may be steady or even slightly declining, but altcoins are collapsing far more violently; in both situations, Bitcoin's market share increases. When Bitcoin's dominance declines, it means that altcoins are outperforming Bitcoin overall.
A steep decline in dominance, particularly below specific levels such as 50% or 40%, is indicative of an active altcoin season. Bitcoin's dominance has historically declined after significant altcoin booms.
