Solana proposes Alpenglow, the largest consensus upgrade in its history

The Solana blockchain announced the Alpenglow proposal, a profound overhaul of its consensus system, created by the Anza team (a spin-off of Solana Labs). The upgrade brings two new components: Votor and Rotor, designed to make the network faster, more secure, and more resilient.

With Votor, transaction finalization could happen in up to 150 milliseconds, a radical improvement compared to the current 13 seconds. The Rotor will replace the Turbine data transmission protocol, ensuring greater efficiency in propagation among validator nodes.

In addition to speed, Alpenglow promises greater robustness, with tolerance for up to 20% of malicious validators and 20% network inactivity, without compromising its operation.

The testing phase is expected to begin in 2025, and if successful, it could position Solana as the fastest and most reliable public blockchain in the market. The community eagerly awaits the next steps of this innovation.
