On May 22, 2010, a Florida-based programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz made history by purchasing two Papa John’s pizzas for 10,000 bitcoins. At the time, Bitcoin had no real market value, making this the first recorded real-world transaction using cryptocurrency. A generous fellow forum user accepted the BTC and placed the pizza order for him. Little did they know, those 10,000 bitcoins would be worth millions of dollars today. This moment is now celebrated every year as Bitcoin Pizza Day.
