Leaders of European countries who spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump after his phone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin were surprised by Washington's reluctance to impose new sanctions against Moscow. This was reported by the British newspaper Financial Times (FT) citing a source.
According to its information, European leaders were astonished by how Trump described the agreements reached with Putin. The publication noted that from the words of the American president, it followed that he was 'not ready to exert more pressure' on the Russian Federation.
After this, Trump had a phone conversation with the leaders of the European Union countries and Volodymyr Zelensky. Participants included French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
