In 2009, a Norwegian student named Kristoffer Koch was writing a thesis on encryption. As part of his research, he bought 5,000 BTC for about $27 USD.
Just out of curiosity.
Then… he forgot about it.
Years later, in 2013, Bitcoin started popping up in the news. Curious, Kristoffer dug up his old wallet and was shocked to discover those forgotten Bitcoins were now worth over $800,000!
He immediately sold just a portion of it — enough to buy a fully furnished apartment in Oslo, one of Europe’s most expensive cities — and kept the rest.
