U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Pisent described a meeting with Chinese officials regarding trade that will begin on Saturday as negotiations.

He added that White House trade advisor Peter Navarro will not join him or U.S. Trade Representative Jameson Greer in the discussions in Switzerland.

Pisent's response came when he was asked during a House Financial Services Committee hearing whether discussions with China were considered advanced; he said we will start on Saturday, which I believe reflects advanced talks.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on Friday that it is "evaluating" an offer from Washington to hold talks.
