At the Blockchain Baddies event during Token2049 in Dubai, women in Web3 shared how clarity, education, and community are key factors in attracting more women to the cryptocurrency world.

In an industry filled with complexity, jargon, and distrust, women in Web3 say the path to attracting more women to the crypto space starts with clarity, education, and community.

At the Blockchain Baddies side event during Token2049 in Dubai, women shared their personal experiences entering the world of Web3 and why they believe more female participation is vital for the future of cryptocurrencies.

In interviews with Cointelegraph, community members said the way forward starts with simplifying technical concepts and fostering environments where women can learn and grow.

From providing clarity to building skills

From simplifying technical language to creating safe learning spaces, women in Web3 said that demystifying cryptocurrencies and making tools more user-friendly can open up more opportunities for women to enter the Web3 industry.

Caroline York, marketing director at Serotonin, said that making the space more welcoming for women starts with clarity. She added: "To attract more women, we need to make information easier to understand and clearer."

York told Cointelegraph that women feel safer in environments characterized by trust and privacy, where friends and peers are their sources of information. York added: "Women learn from each other," referring to community educational initiatives like SheFi. York emphasized that these programs play a role in expanding women's participation.

Saima Tariq Khan, an engineer, educator, and member of the cryptocurrency community, supported York's views. Khan told Cointelegraph that demystifying scary cryptocurrency terms is the ideal solution. She added: "What is decentralized finance? What do I mean by cryptocurrency? What is blockchain technology? First, we need to build this foundational level of understanding."

Khan also said that despite many women graduating from computer science courses, their representation in the job market is weak. She added that the remote work environment offered by Web3 provides an opportunity to connect with an underutilized talent pool.

Financial literacy should be the starting point

Paloma Surya Brown, a writer and researcher at SheFi, said education is foundational. However, Brown emphasized that financial literacy should be the starting point.

Brown told Cointelegraph: "People don't necessarily know what Web3 means. When you're familiar with cryptocurrencies but aren't an investor, you might only see scams and fraud."

Brown said that promoting financial education and building trust are essential to attracting women and more people to this field. She added that if more people understand Web3 concepts related to ownership, freedom, and community, they will be drawn to its potential.

Meanwhile, Abigail Xavier, marketing director at the Web3 financial platform Vasset, told Cointelegraph that companies have a role in making cryptocurrencies more accessible to women. Xavier added that their team actively seeks feedback from women-focused communities to improve their products.

Xavier said, "We collaborate with many women-focused communities to understand their experiences and integrate this feedback into our user interface and user experience design. We aim to make our platform and tools more user-friendly for our female audience.
