The Tether AI platform will integrate Bitcoin and USDT payments, using the WDK toolkit for self-custody wallets, confirmed CEO Paolo Ardoino.
Tether – the group behind the largest stablecoin on the market, USDt – has just confirmed that its new artificial intelligence platform, Tether AI, will integrate Bitcoin (BTC) and USDt payment functionality. The information was announced by CEO Paolo Ardoino on social network X on May 5, marking the next step in Tether's expansion strategy into the AI field.
According to Ardoino, Tether AI is designed as an infinitely personalized intelligence platform that operates in a decentralized model, without using API keys and without relying on centralized control infrastructure. The system is described as a completely open-source AI runtime, operating on an unstoppable peer-to-peer network, deployable on any device and hardware.

One of the highlights of Tether AI is the integration of peer-to-peer crypto payments, allowing users to make transactions directly without the need for an intermediary. This function is built on the open source wallet development kit WDK (Wallet Development Kit) - a product introduced by Tether in November 2024.
WDK enables developers to build cross-platform (web, desktop, mobile) self-managed wallets that support Bitcoin and USDt storage and trading, with users fully holding their private keys.
Unlike traditional custodial wallets, self-custodial wallet solutions eliminate the risk of relying on third parties, giving users full control over their assets – an approach that aligns with the decentralization philosophy pursued by Tether AI.
The Tether AI project is part of a large-scale restructuring plan that Tether announced in April 2024. Accordingly, the company expanded its operations beyond the stablecoin sector, establishing specialized departments such as Tether Data - focusing on developing AI systems and P2P network applications.
Previously, in February 2024, Mr. Ardoino revealed that Tether's AI team is developing a series of specialized applications such as AI Translate (automatic translation tool), AI Voice Assistant (voice assistant) and AI Bitcoin Wallet Assistant (Bitcoin wallet assistant).
Tether's ambition, he said, is to build the “ideal technology platform” to realize the vision of AI outlined by science fiction writer Isaac Asimov – a decentralized AI ecosystem, not controlled by any centralized entity.
