**Vitalik Buterin Proposes Fusaka Fork to Simplify and Scale Ethereum**
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed a major overhaul of the Ethereum network through a new initiative called the “Fusaka” fork. The proposal aims to simplify Ethereum’s architecture, improve scalability, and boost network resilience.
Central to the Fusaka upgrade is the introduction of a streamlined consensus model dubbed “3-slot finality,” which would replace complex epoch structures and significantly reduce the consensus codebase. Buterin also envisions a major shift from the current Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) to a RISC-V-based virtual machine. RISC-V, an open-source instruction set, promises up to 100x improvements in zero-knowledge proof efficiency and allows developers to write smart contracts in more common programming languages.
The Fusaka fork includes two key stages—Fulu and Osaka—which will introduce features like the EVM Object Format (EOF) and PeerDAS to improve data availability. The transition to RISC-V is expected to be phased in carefully to preserve compatibility while increasing performance.
If implemented, the Fusaka proposal could mark one of Ethereum’s most transformative upgrades, positioning the network for long-term efficiency, broader developer adoption, and greater scalability.
