The Mexican peso (symbol: $; code: MXN) is the official currency of Mexico. The current ISO 4217 code for the peso is MXN; before the revaluation in 1993, the code MXP was used. The peso is divided into 100 centavos, represented by "¢". On December 9, 2020, the exchange rate of the peso was 23.97 dollars per euro and 19.83 dollars per US dollar. Modern currencies of the peso and the dollar share a common origin in the Spanish dollar from the 15th century to the 19th century, with most continuing to use the "$" symbol. The Mexican peso is the fifteenth most traded currency in the world, the third most traded currency from the Americas (after the US dollar and the Canadian dollar), and the most traded currency in Latin America.
