Last week, U.S. President Trump reiterated his support for cryptocurrency in an interview and denied profiting from it. He stated that crypto assets remain resilient during market downturns, are now widely accepted, and stressed that the U.S. must lead in digital asset innovation.
Trump stated during an interview with (NBC News):
"I think cryptocurrency is important because if we don't do it, China will get ahead. It's something new, very popular, and extremely hot. Look at how it holds up much stronger than other areas of the market when the overall market is down."
Trump pointed out that the importance of cryptocurrency cannot be overlooked and emphasized that the scale of its adoption is the driving force behind his support for cryptocurrency. He also accused the Biden administration of initially cracking down on cryptocurrency but later softening its stance for political gain.
Denying profiting from cryptocurrency
Host Kristen Welker also specifically asked Trump about his official meme coin TRUMP. Welker pointed out that the price of TRUMP surged significantly when the team announced it would invite the top 220 holders to a dinner, raising questions about whether Trump was profiting from it.
When addressing this situation, Trump responded that he has "not profited from anything" and emphasized that his support for cryptocurrency was a position he held before the campaign began.
"I haven't even looked at it," Trump said. "If I hold stocks in something, and I do well and cause the stock market to rise, I guess I would have to say that's profit, right?"
Trump also mentioned that he has donated all of his presidential salary to the government and plans to continue doing so. When asked if he would donate any profits related to cryptocurrency, he said he had never considered it.
He added, "If I have real estate that has appreciated a bit because I have been president and done well for years, should I donate all of it? I don't think so."
