Illegal Bitcoin Mining Operation Busted in Malaysia
Malaysian law enforcement recently cracked down on an unauthorized Bitcoin mining setup as part of their ongoing "Op Letrik" operation. The raid targeted facilities in Ulu Terengganu and Marang, where authorities confiscated 45 mining rigs and supporting hardware—estimated to be worth around RM225,000.
The illegal operation was siphoning electricity, causing utility losses of approximately RM36,000 every month. The case is now under official investigation, with those involved potentially facing hefty penalties—including up to five years in prison and fines reaching RM100,000—under Malaysia’s electricity theft and criminal laws.
