FIFA has announced the upcoming launch of its own Ethereum-compatible blockchain, marking a major shift in its digital strategy as it moves its FIFA Collect NFT platform away from Algorand.
The new “FIFA Blockchain” aims to offer improved performance, scalability, and future feature upgrades, according to an April 30 statement. The migration of the FIFA Collect NFTs will begin no earlier than May 20, with users able to access the platform via MetaMask and other WalletConnect-compatible EVM wallets.
Post-migration, support for Algorand-based wallets like Pera and Defly will be discontinued. NFTs listed for sale will automatically carry over unless manually delisted.
This move underscores FIFA’s growing interest in Web3 and gaming, following its 2024 partnership with Mythical Games to launch the upcoming mobile game FIFA Rivals, set for a May pre-release and full launch in summer 2025.
