U.S. President Donald Trump renewed his criticisms of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell while promoting his economic policies and his tariff program during an event on Tuesday marking 100 days since taking office.
Trump said during a campaign rally outside Detroit, Michigan: "Inflation has basically dropped, and interest rates have decreased, although I have someone at the Federal Reserve who is not really doing a good job."
The president's condemnation came despite his earlier statement this month that he does not intend to fire the central bank chairman, despite his continued criticism of the slow pace of interest rate cuts. Doubts about Powell's fate have caused turmoil in the markets, increasing investors' concerns about Trump's tariff plans.
