China says 'no phone call' recently between Xi and Trump.
The world's two biggest economies are locked in an escalating tit-for-tat trade battle triggered by Trump's levies on Chinese goods, which have reached 145 percent on many products.
President Donald Trump, emphasizing that there are no ongoing talks between the two countries to resolve their tariff dispute.
A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs firmly denied Trump's recent claim, made during an interview with Time magazine, that Xi had called him. The clarification comes as tensions remain high between the world's two largest economies over steep trade tariffs.
"To my knowledge, there has been no recent phone conversation between the two leaders," said Guo Jiakun at a regular press briefing. "I want to stress that China and the United States are not holding consultations or negotiations regarding the tariff issue.
