"Mad tariff scheme." 12 American states file a joint lawsuit against Trump's tariffs

Democratic attorneys general from 12 American states have filed a joint lawsuit challenging the legality of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff increases on several countries.

This is reported by NBC News. "By claiming his authority to impose huge and constantly changing tariffs on any goods imported into the U.S. that he chooses, for any reason he deems convenient to declare a state of emergency, the president has undermined constitutional order and brought chaos to the American economy," the statement reads.

The plaintiffs are demanding an end to the tariffs imposed by Trump. Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes stated in a press release announcing the lawsuit: "Trump's mad tariff scheme is not only economically reckless - it is illegal."

In the opinion of New York Attorney General Letitia James, the tariffs will lead to increased inflation, unemployment, and economic damage.
