Ethereum Advances with Scalability Upgrades.

Ethereum, the leading smart contract platform, continues to advance its blockchain infrastructure through strategic upgrades aimed at scalability, efficiency, and user experience. The upcoming Pectra upgrade, expected in May 2025, will introduce significant improvements to validator performance and pave the way for further protocol enhancements.

Following Pectra, developers are preparing the Fusaka hard fork, which may include a proposal EIP-9678 to raise the Layer 1 gas limit to 150 million, a substantial jump from the current ~36 million. This change is intended to boost transaction throughput and support more complex decentralized applications directly on Ethereum’s base layer.

Meanwhile, the network continues to benefit from the Dencun upgrade (March 2024), which introduced proto-danksharding via EIP-4844, significantly reducing Layer 2 transaction costs and promoting rollup scalability.
