Researchers are integrating ultra-thin optical fibers along the submarine’s hull to direct powerful laser energy into plasma-driven detonation waves.

This innovative system is said to generate around 70,000 newtons of thrust—comparable to jet engines—while supercavitation bubbles help keep the vessel nearly silent beneath the surface.
