#USChinaTensions A brand new Boeing 737 MAX intended for use by Xiamen Airlines flew back to Seattle on Saturday. This occurred after trade tariffs for China were announced, highlighting the growing conflict between Washington and Beijing.
The single-aisle jet landed at Boeing Field at 6:11 PM after a 5,000-mile journey that included stops for refueling in Guam and Hawaii. CNN reported that it was awaiting final checks at Boeing's completion center in Zhoushan before delivery, but the increased tariffs have turned the delivery into a financial dead end.
Earlier this month, the United States raised base tariffs on Chinese imports to 145%. China responded with tariffs of 125% on American goods. With a market value near 55 million dollars, a new 737 MAX would cost a Chinese buyer well over double that amount once additional costs are added.
