General data and information

TRON is an open-source platform launched in 2017 for decentralized global distribution of content and entertainment, as well as the deployment of smart contracts. Its whitepaper was released before its ICO in August 2017 on the Ethereum blockchain. With a high TPS (transactions per second), the network allows creators to publish, store, and maintain ownership of their content, enabling content creators to be directly rewarded by content consumers through the native currency (TRX) and other cryptocurrencies.

Using decentralized peer-to-peer file storage systems, the Sun network allows content to be placed on the blockchain without the need for content publishing intermediaries (publishing platforms).

In April 2017 - Tron Foundation established.

August 2017 - Tron ICO

May 31, 2018 - Launch of Tron mainnet.

June 2018 - ERC20 tokens migrated to Tron.

July 23, 2018 - Bittorrent was acquired by Tron

Utility

The native currency (TRX) can be used by content consumers to pay creators for in-game assets, use as in-game currency, or to directly reward creators for their entertainment content or to purchase additional access. The currency, in turn, can be used by content creators to pay for various services on the network.

Freezing (staking) TRX tokens results in the energy and bandwidth needed to interact smoothly with the network, as well as an increase in the voting power of Super Representatives.

Significant features

Average block time of 15 seconds; total supply of 100 billion TRX; consensus via Proof of Stake (Fast Paxos).

High bandwidth, averaging 2,000 transactions per second.
