Beijing has accused the United States of launching an "extremely shameless" tariff war against it, saying the move will soon "backfire" on Washington.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks during a regular briefing on Tuesday. He stated, "The tariff war initiated by the US against China is extremely shameless, and it will eventually backfire on itself."
He further added that China will take all necessary measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
It is worth noting that the United States recently imposed new tariffs on Chinese goods. In response, China has also taken countermeasures, further escalating trade tensions between the two countries.
