The market is waiting for the Fed.. A hot week for the heated markets. Powell will speak
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell is expected to give a speech at the Economic Club of Chicago on Wednesday.
Powell previously warned, on April 4, that Trump's tariffs are "higher than expected" and could lead to an increase in inflation and a slowdown in growth.
However, at that time, he indicated that it was still too early to determine what the correct response to the tariffs would be. Investors expect the Federal Reserve to provide some reassurance that it is ready to intervene to quell sentiments in case the tariffs lead to further waves of strong pressure on the market, while Trump himself has urged the central bank to lower interest rates.
Crucially, analysts noted that Powell's upcoming statement will be the first since Trump revealed the partial 90-day delay of his overall tariffs last week after a massive wave of turmoil in the stock and bond markets.
