The lawyer has sued the U.S. Department of Homeland Security demanding the disclosure of a meeting with the creator of Bitcoin

Crypto lawyer James Murphy has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to obtain documents that may confirm the agency met with the alleged creators of Bitcoin.

The basis for the lawsuit was the speech of DHS agent Rana Saoud at the OffshoreAlert conference in Miami in April 2019. At that time, she stated that her colleagues had communicated with four individuals whom the agency believed were involved in creating Bitcoin.

Agents flew to California, where they "realized that he [the creator of Bitcoin] was not alone," and had a conversation with a group of four people to learn about their motives.

Murphy is demanding the provision of records, letters, and other materials related to this meeting. He admits that DHS officials may have been mistaken, but believes that if the meeting indeed took place, it should be documented.

The lawyer is accompanied in the case by former U.S. federal prosecutor's assistant Brian Field, who specializes in Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) cases that allow citizens to access government documents.
