🧠 WHAT ARE LAYER 0 / LAYER 1 / LAYER 2?
Newcomers, please read carefully.
If you're new to crypto and hear about these “layers,” you might be confused. But don’t worry, I will explain it as easy as eating instant noodles 🍜
📦 Easy-to-understand example:
Imagine blockchain as a highway system:
Layer 0 = Foundation + infrastructure (like land, electricity, internet)
Layer 1 = Main road (cars running, toll booths, traffic jams)
Layer 2 = Side streets, alleys (less congestion, faster travel)
🔎 Details of each Layer:
✅ Layer 0 – Connecting infrastructure
It is the foundation that helps many other blockchains operate.
Example: Polkadot, Cosmos, Avalanche (Subnet)
Main function: create bridges between blockchains → helps them communicate with each other.
✅ Layer 1 – Main blockchain
It is where original transactions are processed and stored.
Example: Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana
Disadvantage: can get congested when there are many users.
Function: security, storage, and transaction confirmation.
✅ Layer 2 – Speed up, reduce fees
Built on Layer 1 to process transactions faster.
Example: Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon
Transactions processed on Layer 2 → send results back to Layer 1.
Function: expand speed, reduce congestion, save gas fees.
🎯 Quick summary for everyone:
L0 is the foundation – where the house is built.
L1 is the main house – handling work.
L2 is the upper floor – supporting the main house to work faster and lighter.
