In a groundbreaking move, Pakistan has officially appointed Changpeng Zhao (CZ), the founder of Binance, as the Strategic Adviser to its newly formed Pakistan Crypto Council. This bold step underscores the country's determination to become a key player in the global digital economy and signals a pivotal shift toward embracing blockchain technology, Web3 innovation, and decentralized finance (DeFi).
The appointment was finalized following a high-level government session led by Finance and Revenue Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, with notable participation from the State Bank Governor, Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and senior officials from the Ministries of Law and IT. This collective presence reflects the serious commitment at the highest levels of government.
“This marks a defining moment in Pakistan’s digital transformation,” Minister Aurangzeb stated. “Having CZ join our mission strengthens our resolve to lead in blockchain innovation and reshape our financial future.”
During his visit, CZ also held separate meetings with Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, where discussions focused on regulatory frameworks, digital infrastructure, and fostering a thriving crypto-tech ecosystem. His role will include advising on crypto adoption, education initiatives, regulatory policy, and infrastructure development tailored for Pakistan’s unique landscape.
Chief Adviser Bilal Bin Saqib, who is overseeing the Pakistan Crypto Council’s vision, expressed confidence in CZ’s leadership: “Pakistan is opening up to a transformative era in finance—and there’s no better guide than CZ to help shape that journey.”
Highlighting the nation’s demographic edge, CZ remarked, “With over 240 million people—most of whom are under 30—Pakistan holds massive untapped potential in the Web3 space.” His involvement is expected to inspire both domestic growth and global investor confidence.
