At the beginning of Trump’s second presidential term, Beijing spent weeks trying unsuccessfully to clarify the new American administration’s position on China. Chinese officials who want to resume dialogue with Washington have failed.
“Beijing’s hopes for constructive negotiations have disappeared after Trump’s latest tariff decisions, replaced by disappointment and dissatisfaction,” the publication notes.
In response, Beijing imposed its own 34% tariffs on all American imports.
