A senior White House official stated that the baseline tariff rate (10%) will take effect on April 5th, and the equal tariffs will take effect on April 9th.
The situation over the weekend was that it felt like the whole world quickly surrendered, with more and more countries willing to accept the U.S. equal tariffs. Most mainstream countries have softened their attitudes, at least not clearly indicating that they will raise retaliatory tariffs, which is somewhat surprising. It seems that Trump is right; politics is not like a market where old ladies argue about who is right. Politics is based on strength, and those with strength have the final say.
